Obituary of Joyce Adelsa Austin
Joyce Austin, affectionately known as Mama, a virtuous woman of God, has departed this earthly world at the age of 95, leaving behind a legacy of love and faith that will continue to inspire us for generations to come. Mama was born in the Parish of Manchester in Jamaica and lived a life of purpose and devotion to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a mother of nine children, two of whom preceded her in death. Her unshakeable faith in God was the rock that held her family together, and her love and wisdom were a constant source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her.
Mama had a favorite song, "Why Worry About Tomorrow," which spoke to her unwavering faith in God's provision and care. She also loved to sing "When the Windows of Heaven are Open" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye," giving glory and praise to the Lord who had blessed her life in so many ways. Her favorite scriptures were Psalms 91 and Psalms 51, which reminded her of God's protection and forgiveness.
Mama was married to her beloved husband Lester Austin in 1960, who passed away many years ago. She worked as a healthcare aide, extending her compassion and care to those in need. She was a faithful member of the Church of God Sabbath Keeping, known in the church as "Under the Blood," where she served as an example of faith and devotion to all who knew her.
Mama’s legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched with her love and faith. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will always remember her as "Mama," the strong and loving matriarch who held the family together with her prayers and wisdom. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 31:28, "Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her." Joyce was truly a blessed woman, and her impact on those around her was immeasurable. Her favorite quote was, "Prayer is my daily food," a testament to her unceasing devotion to God.
As we say farewell to Mama, we take comfort in the knowledge that she has earned her eternal rest. The Bible tells us in Revelation 21:4, "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Mama has now entered her eternal rest, and we can find peace in knowing that she is with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mama, we celebrate your life and the legacy of love and faith that you have left behind. We know that you are now in the arms of your Heavenly Father, where there is no more pain or suffering. We will miss you, but we take comfort in the knowledge that we will see you again one day. As her children would often say, "Mama, you're a winner!" which she loved to hear, has truly manifested itself as she has won her eternal reward in heaven. Rest in peace, dear Mama, for you have left a lasting impact on all those who knew you. We love you mama!
