The Dash What would I say if I had to speak At the funeral of a friend? I’d refer to the dates on his tombstone From the beginning to the end I’d note that first came the day of his birth And speak the following date with tears, But I’d say what mattered most of all Is the dash between those years For that dash represents all the time That he spent alive on earth, And all of those who truly loved him Know what that little line is worth For it matters not how much we own; The cars, the house, the cash What matters is how we move and love, And how we spend our dash. …and through the family, the Dash lives on. What a beautiful service for an exceptional husband, father, overall family member and friend. Even though I’ve met him only once, I can identify strongly with the sentiments expressed in the tributes, eulogy and sermon. So heartfelt indeed. As such, having a great legacy bequeathed to all affected and touched greatly by his life, do find courage and strength in your efforts to live that legacy.
