I was friends with John – that's what we called him between us – in our teenage years, but we lost touch over time – you know how life has an insidious way of putting itself between friends and people. I was wondering today what could possibly have become of him in those thirty odd years since our LaSalle days, in Quebec province.
You can imagine my utter shock when I found out he had passed away, almost three years ago already. At the same time, I was happy to learn he had had two children, because they got to see how kind and funny he was – surely he stayed that way and kept the traits he already had when we hung out as young men on John-Campbell Street and in the neighborhood. He was always a pleasure to be with. We played baseball with him, my brother and I, and we were constantly amazed by the strength of his throws and the distance he could hit those tennis balls with his baseball bat. Ah, fond memories indeed.
I always regretted having lost touch with him, and now I regret it even more.
John, je suis privilégié de t'avoir connu, et j'ai adoré chaque moment que j'ai passé avec toi. Je suis certain que Patrick serait d'accord avec moi.
– Dany (Babin, in case you don't recognize me from up there – I do have less hair now than I did then)

John always had a great temperament, quiet friendly and peaceful nature about him. He was a pleasure to be around and talk to. He was always helpful and caring to all around him. An incredibly hard worker and dedicated family man. Always willing to lend a hand or just a smile. Spoke often of his children with me. I can't begin to to express my condolences to his family and loved ones. Just know that your pain is shared by all who knew him and loved him. Be at peace my brother. May God bless your soul and keep your family. You will be I'm our hearts and prayers my friend.

I got to know John when I started working at the funeral home in Burlington. He would deliver caskets to us every weekend. He was everyone's favourite driver! He would show up Saturday afternoon with a big smile on his face and a good story to tell. He would always joke around with us. Everyone always looked forward to seeing him.
To John's family, I am so very sorry for your loss. John was truly a wonderful person. My thoughts and prays are with you during this difficult time.

I just want you to know i knew John as an Emterra driver. I would scale him in everyday. He always had a beautiful smile a kind word. Loved his family and worked so hard to support them. We at the scale house were all shocked and devastated to learn of his passing. All the Emterra trucks are sporting black ribbons in his honor. I feel blessed to have known him. Such a gentle soul. He will be missed. Libby.
