A couple days ago I learned of the passing of my closest highschool friend Oliver Clayton Smith aka Pokemon( My name for him) Oliver was kind, sweet, funny and loyal! He was smart, caring and overprotective. He was gentle and incredibly genuine. I have many great memories that we shared as fifteen and sixteen year old kids. (Although we thought we were pretty grown at the time. ) I remember us saying that we would be best of friends until we were old and crusty and how we would sit in our old age reminiscing of our younger selves and days.. It's sad how life happens and how seasons change so quickly because we somehow lost touch for years and back in 2012 I randomly saw Oliver downtown. We saw each other from so far and after all those years we recognized each other from a distance. He hugged me tightly and when I jokingly said "I thought you had forgotten me all these years", he replied "how could I ever forget you"and proceeded to call me by my first, middle and last name. And called me Pikachu, the name he had given me because I had nicknamed him Pokemon. ( Two peas in a pod at that time like Pokemon and Pikachu) Oliver will never get the opportunity to know how much his love and friendship meant to me, and how much he left a positive impact on my life but I will never forget it and will never forget him. I love you Oliver. I wish things could have gone differently but you were too good and God must have needed you with him, so he called you home. I know you are at peace now. Rest in paradise love. So glad I got to talk to my good friend recently, we had a great heart warming conversation and laughs as usual. My condolences to the family for their lose. I knew Oliver in his younger days, he was our neighbor who lived in Westminster. Watching him learn the lessons of life, I knew him as a good boy growing into a man. Lost at times, I felt he just needed guidance. My heart dropped when I found out about his passing, wish we didn't lose touch but life happens and people move on. My prayers go out to the family and friends. He will be missed. See you on the other side bro.

My brother, Oliver. I know it’s been a while my friend, I have missed you. I am deeply sorry I didn’t tell you what you meant to me and my family. I will never forget your contagious smile. He never failed to light up every room he walked into, did he? Your smile personally made me feel safe, loved and like you needed me too. I will miss your infectious and contagious laugh, thank you for my childhood laughs, from the bottom of my heart. I have a lifetime of the best memories because of you and with you. Where to begin Oliver.. it’s been over 25 years since we met and hung around g and g together .. you always had the brightest smile and the biggest laugh.
