It is hard to say goodbye to someone so dear: as dear as Gerry. I met Gerry through Desrene and words cannot express the sadness I feel at his passing. He was a gentle, quiet and easygoing person. You are all in my thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. Rest in peace and love Gerry.

Our Condolences to Gerry’s family. I worked on and off with Gerry when I first came to VIA from CN in June of 1985. He was quite the gentleman. Mr. Samuels will be sadly missed. He was a great VIA brother to work with and was well respected by his brothers sisters and management. R.I.P my friend.

I'm going miss Gerry.
I met him many years ago at Stadium comics. Wednesday is new comic book day and I would usually run into him as the store opened. We would talk about old comics, and recent comics, and what was coming out next in comics. Gerry was a big fan of superheroes, and sword and sorcery. Conan was his favourite character and Gerry was excited when Conan was brought into the recent Marvel continuity and he joined the Avengers. It made him very happy! I'm going to miss Gerry's enthusiasm. I'm going to miss his smile. I'm going to miss chatting with him about comic books, and life, and the world, and occasionally about politics, ...but mostly about comic books.
My Wednesdays will never be the same.
I'm going to miss you Gerry.
Rest in Peace my friend. My heartfelt condolences to your family. You will be missed.

I have a lot of great memories of Gerry working with him at Via Rail.
He was a great Leadhand and always willing to help with a smile on his face.
My whole family knew him and he will be really missed.
Occasionally, we used to meet at Good Life fitness and always smiling.
Our heartfelt condolences to the family.
We will miss you brother Gerry.
May his soul rest in peace .

I started working with Gerry many moms ago
1 day I asked him 4 his tow motor key as I had 4gotten mine.
He asked me how long I needed it for and when I'll return it,
I answered
Oh just for a minute.
He comes back to me and asks about his key
THEN asks me about his key and says
Didn't you say you wanted to borrow it for a minute?
The minute has passed.
I Smile and answer sweetly
Oh I'm sorry
Did I forget to mention that
IT WAS FOR A JAMAICAN MINUTE!!
I SHALL MISS HIM
AND DO MISS HIM DEEPLY!
TO HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN
MY HEART BREAKS FOR YOU!!

Words are not enough to sum my dear uncle but I can safely say that the Lord knew exactly what He was doing when He joined you and my aunt Deserene together. Now you are gone we are left with void that no one can fill. You were the husband, the father, the brother, the uncle, the cousin and the friend of the century.
Uncle Gerri, you are gone but not forgotten, may your soul rest in God's eternal peace.
SIP my dear uncle.

Gerry was myTeam Leader in our department at VIA RAIL and one of my favourite buddies. At lunch time we always used to joke around with each other. Gerry was a very happy guy and could always make you laugh. He had friends in all the departments at VIA RAIL (ON BOARD SERVICE) etc
He never got into any confrontations and on his retirement we still kept in touch with each other, Only two weeks before his passing we were on the phone as usual reminiscing on the old days working at the CANADIAN NATIONAL RAILWAYS and
VIA RAIL.I still can't believe that he left us so suddenly.
REST IN PEACE MY BUDDY.

To Desrene and Family,
In times like these it is difficult to express in words the sentiments of our hearts. We know you believe in a God who will take care of His children. He promised that he would send us the comforter because He knew that we would be faced with sorrow and grief. We have the assurance that God will never leave us nor forsake us.
Please accept our condolences in this difficult time. We will live in the great hope of an assured resurrection. Let us remain faithful till that day, when we shall see Gerald again when this mortal shall put on immortality.
Take courage in this blessed hope and live in the great memories of 40 years of wedded bliss!
Groves Family
We Love You Aunty Desrene!!

I have lots of great memories of Gerry working with him at VIA Rail but one of my favourites;
Gerry was the Lead Hand (Foreman) at Union Station and it was his job to open up at 5:30 in the morning. Me a few other guys started at 6:00 and there was Gerry by himself in the lunch room with the TV playing music videos and he was dancing :^) We laughed and teased him about it for years.
He was always happy and easy going and a real joy to be with.
He will be sadly missed.
My condolences to Gerry's family.

Dear Shona,
I feel sad that I never had the opportunity to meet your Dad - he looks like the most gentle man. It's difficult to find the right words to say at a time like this but rest assured that we are praying for you to receive the peace that surpasses all understanding knowing that Gerry is in the arms of Jesus. God bless you ❤
