Obituary of Mona Crescentia Bell
"Mona came into this world as the first child born to both parents Austin Bell and Marian Bell, (both now deceased) on 17th April, 1959, in Dominica. She passed away on 9th August, 2020 in Toronto, Canada after a long illness.
Prior to migrating to Canada, Mona lived and worked in Dominica. She migrated to St. Lucia after her studies where she started her family and bore her two lovely children Arlen and Kalene, then returned to Dominica where she worked for a number of years before migrating to Canada. It was her love and chase for what interested her that created that path.
All who have had the privilege of knowing Mona, would truly describe her as one of the most gentle and beautiful souls to ever walk the face of the earth. She was compassionate to everyone she encountered. She was selfless and always gave of herself willing. She loved unconditionally and empathy was one of her greatest qualities. It is appropriate to quote here the words of the title to the song ‘Only The Good Die Young’.
Her strength of character and bravery were the qualities that carried her through the 7-year battle with cancer, through she very rarely complained.
The courage with which she faced her challenge would be among the most telling lessons she left with her loved ones. To celebrate and be grateful for the simple things we take for granted. In her last conversation on the Saturday before her transition, which in retrospect were her parting words she expressed how she loved us ‘more than we will ever know’.
Mona leaves behind her loved ones: son Arlen and daughter Kalene; grandson Levin; and in Dominica her siblings Mavis, Olive and Austin; as well as six nieces and nephews and her grand niece and nephew. She will forever be remembered for the her abundance of love and her quiet, courageous spirit.”
