One of my memories of Uncle Martin is typical of who he was as a person, always ready to help.
I remember him driving me around to various institutions around Ontario when I indicated an interest in studying computer science.
He made it seem like no big thing when in fact it was a lovely thing to do.
I pray that he will rise in glory.

TRIBUTE FOR MARTIN CARASCO
I think it’s fair to say that the passing of Martin, my dearly beloved brother-in-law was truly a tragedy - not only for me, but think I can safely say for us all! I dare not allow myself to be deprived of the opportunity to express my feelings about Martin’s impact on my life as I know that I will forever be haunted by him, for such a misdeed! As the Caribbean breezes waft into our homes in the Caribbean, so did Martin! He was at all times soothing and omnipresent.
I first met Martin when he was still a youthful lad wandering around in St. Lucia trying to make his life’s dream become a reality, when I first visited St. Lucia with Rick. Despite the doubtful sequence of our meetings, I do vividly recall that we met up on several subsequent occasions, in Toronto, Barbados and in New York. He visited me and Rick when we resided in New York and we also clowned around quite a bit in Toronto. He was a sweetheart of a guy. I often teased him and would tell him that I think I married the wrong ‘Carasco’, which would evoke giggles from his shy lips. We became close at a very fast pace. Whenever Martin entered a space, you were forced to stop whatever you were doing as his presence demanded one’s full attention. He was clothed with that type of presence; and humbly so. His very presence spoke volumes – and quietly so. He was selfless and would run or walk to the ends of the world just to please you or earn your respect. All of my friends, especially those at the UN, just loved him and had a tendency to inquire of him, despite the fact that they had no recent contact with him.
I vividly recall that I expressed an interest in having a Magic Jack line, just like the one he introduced me to. I was fascinated with the feature of free phone calls to any part of Canada and the USA. But of course the hidden ‘feature’ was that Martin could now ‘freely’ communicate with me! And vice-versa, I too, was able to speak frequently to Martin with a click of the dial! Much to my surprise, Martin paid for the subscription of a Magic Jack line in my Barbados residence, much to my delight. This was typical of Martin’s good deeds. So in essence the membership for my Magic Jack line was also in the name of ‘Martin Carasco’. I was touched by his generosity. He took me by storm once more when he traveled all the way from Toronto to Vancouver to attend the wedding of my son Learie which took place on 27 November 2007. He also rendered the main speech at the Event. Martin rented an apartment and a car for the duration of his stay in BC and I accepted his invitation to stayed there with him and his wife Anita. I will make one solid confession and it is this – Martin had me in stitches each and every day as he brought out the worse in me with his unusual sense of humor. I recall laughing myself to sleep one night after another with endless giggles, which often brought me to tears. He was hilariously entertaining!
Martin was clearly part of the family as my sister June who resides in Barbados reminded me that he spent vacations in Barbados where he stayed at the family home and also attended the Grand Opening of my late mother’s Gertz Supermarket in 1970. Indeed he played so many roles not only in my life but in the life of my son Learie who grew to love him as a ‘father/big brother’ figure. He was a wonderful mentor to Learie who loved him dearly and will also miss him tremendously. He has been sadly impacted by the passing of his Uncle.
Martin, you will be sorely missed, but like the Caribbean winds, you will continue to waft in and out of our lives forever. You have left your own indelible mark on each of our lives. Gone too soon! May you Rest in Peace my dear Brother. We loved you and we shall miss you!! Love always, Hazel.

Martin was a beloved friend of my late husband, Mike Aysan. They worked on St. Lucia projects together and loved to talk about world events. He spent hours at our house over the years, visiting with Mike.
So, it was natural that he moved in when he was looking for a room to rent. He lived with us from November 1st, 2019 until July 3rd, 2020.
Martin had a passion for connecting with people of all ages and stations in life. He formed friendships with the other tenants in the house who supported Martin, Marcus, and Marcella through the difficult final days.
Martin loved gathering with us for potluck dinners and special events. We had the honour of celebrating his last birthday with him.
He had a kind and gentle spirit and loved God. I miss him. Martin, my friend, may you rest in peace in the presence of our Saviour.

Martin was a great friend who I worked with on Peel Regional Police. Later in life, we would share stories and reminisce about things we had done and whenever we got together in St Lucia he would spend a lot of his time that he could spare showing us the island that he called home. And he was obviously well known there as when he took m around in this blue Jaguar on roads barely passable, I still remember people waving at him and yelling out "Martin, how are you."
You are gone now my friend but you will never be forgotten.
My condolences to his family and close friends.
