It was regrettable that we attended my childhood friend's, (Gaspard) funeral. The funeral was a total mess, viewing began more than one hour late. While sitting in contemplation of our loss, an unidentified woman told my wife " I don't know who you are, get up and leave". My wife proceeded to do so to avoid any confrontation. She was very shocked as she has never experienced this type of aggressiveness which was not necessary. This is not the norm in any St Lucian funeral. My wife assumed that this woman was "Marilyn" who is supposed to be Gaspard's partner. My wife considered her to be a very rude, impolite, insolent, and disrespectful individual. She is very abrasive and aggressive, lacks finesse and diplomacy, coarse, crass, ignorant, offensive and unrefined. Now we know why God took Gaspard to his home early. As we all know he is in a much better place. We also met other St Lucians who were kicked out of the funeral home. Rest in peace, my brother.

My dearest friend Gaspard, my golfing partner, you have gone too soon. I will miss you immensely. You are one of the most kind hearted and generous person, always willing to lend a hand. We both enjoyed a good egg sandwich, you with your tea laced with honey while I have coffee. Farewell my friend. May you rest in peace.

Affectionately known to me as "Uncle Gasper", he will be sadly missed. He always made it a point to come see me whenever I came to Toronto. His sense of humour, unique and distinct laugh will be what I remember most! RIEP! Still can't believe you are gone!
