In this sad time, Mervia may you and your siblings find peace, knowing that your dad was full of love and laughter. Share the same legacy amongst each other. Revel in the happy times, (musical and other) you once shared with your dad; remember him for who he was.
Coming home from my church I would walk a bit slower just to enjoy the sweet sweet music he played from his guitar. As it echoed from his hilltop church through the gentle breeze, I imagine even the birds may have stopped chirping just to listen.
So now, take comfort knowing that God called your dad home in a timely manner so that his suffering would be no more.
May he sleep in peace!

I could write many chapters about my father-in-law but neither time nor space would allow. However what stands out most in my mind...his mantra, "He that exalteth himself shall be abased and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. " (Luke 14:11).
A simple interpretation ‐God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. He himself was clothed in humility. In return God graced him with a good family,an extraordinary musical talent, good health and longevity to name a few. He was a giant of a man, small in stature but big in character. He was strong yet gentle. Firm yet kind.Simple yet profound. He was the consummate family man who toiled endlessly to ensure that his table was always spread. He exemplified good will, modesty, integrity and hospitality. He taught us how to live, how to give and finally how to die.
Now the day of toil is done
Now the race of life is run
Father grant this weary one
Rest for evermore

To Grandpa:
I will love you and miss you forever. Keep holding me, as you did from I was born. Keep being you, with your love for music and kind heart. A memory I hold with you is always feeding my puppy even when I told you, the dog already ate. You will be missed for all your generosity. May you rest in peace.

To know him was to love him! Simply put, my grandfather was the epitome of greatness!! He loved hard and was fiercely protective of his family. A man as humble, kind and loving as Papa will always be remembered by those of us who knew him and loved him. Although I will miss him, his smile, his jokes, his love, I will take consolation in the good feelings of my bountiful host of memories. King Solomon writes in Proverbs 13:22 “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children”. He was not blessed with material wealth as some would consider riches to be, but the intangible gifts he left us were even greater. I am profoundly thankful to have inherited Papa’s great sense of humor, his ability to make everyone in his presence feel at home; most importantly, I am blessed to have inherited his immense KINDNESS!
The subtle yet indelible influence that he has had on our lives is nearly impossible to quantify and yet we can say this with certainty—apart from Papa’s relentless love, care, support, encouragement and prayers for each of us over the course of our lives, our lives today would be very different had we not known him. I am eternally grateful to God that He saw it fit to have Papa as my grandfather, protector, guide, teacher. How good God has been to each of us, not just to Papa’s family and grandchildren—how good God has been to all of us who had the privilege of knowing this great man.
I miss him dearly, but I will continue to live my life in a manner that will make him proud and honor his legacy. Go rest high on that mountain Papa, your work on earth is done! Thank you, I love you!
