Obituary of Thelma Cynthia Bogle
Job 14: Verses 1 & 2 state: “Man who is born of woman is of few days and full of trouble. He comes forth like a flower and fades away; He flees like a shadow and does not continue.”
While there is an element of truth in the above, Thelma Cynthia Bogle who was born on the 14th of July in 1944 had a full life surpassing her three score and ten having died at the age of 80
She was born in the district of White Hall, St. Thomas, Jamaica. Parents – Lydia McPherson and Leslie Bogle. She made good of her early years through school and community events until she was 18 when she migrated to England to join her mother. But before that, she was recognized by the Jamaica Agricultural Society in 1962 as the one to have won the “Miss Personality Contest.” This was a proud moment for her as she preserved the correspondence received.
Thelma’s life in England started with the pursuit of a career in nursing. As soon as she was qualified, she took off to Canada. Here, she created her life and livity, often extending herself to family in one way or another. While she had no children, she was a mother to many, including a nephew she raised from age 6. She had a dramatic career stemming from her no-nonsense personality, and at times, her personal life which drew admiration to her…
2009 was another decision-making year for Bogle, as she was affectionately called. She retired from her nursing/midwifery career and returned to her homeland Jamaica.
November 3, 2012, marked a new beginning for her when she got baptized by the Rev. Roy McPherson and became a part of the Faith Baptist Church Community in Seaforth. She was a woman of prayer and had this presence wherever she went. People would ask her to pray for them and listen to her wise counsel in her rites. She was always energetic and fit. The gym was a weekly routine.
Her circumstances however changed in July of 2023. She returned from Canada ailing for a pain across her chest. She could not be comforted despite the trips to the doctor and the medication. She went back to Canada in September where numerous tests were conducted. She was finally diagnosed with cancer of the ribs, a type of bone cancer. The downhill journey came with a rapid decline and a few days in the Humber River Hospital in Toronto. She transitioned to glory on January 8, 2025, at 3:10 pm when she was pronounced.
Left to mourn are her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Goodnight Bogle! Sleep in peace! After labor comes rest, after the struggle, peace, after life’s fitful fever, this last sleep. See you in the morning!
