I have been distaught the last few months. I considered basil one of my best friends. I didnt get to say good bye. Thank god i finally found a place where i could share especially with his family what a great kind hearted person he was. Family meant everything to Basil. He was so proud of them. Told me stories and how well everyone was doing, especially his nieces and how little they were and now successful adults. He couldnt have been more prouder of them. He was most proud that everyone followed the wish of his mother. To all keep in contact with eachother and look after one another. He looked forward every month to those family zoom meetings. Basil to me was my best friend and i cant believe that he is gone. Whenever i was down or upset he was always there for me.
when i just needed someone to talk to he was there for me and always left me with the feeling of hope. His favorite saying to me was "a setback is just a setup for a comeback". Im not sure how many people knew how kind hearted and passionate he was. He was very humble about it. If you were starving he would give you food or helped get you food. If you had nowhere to go and didnt have a home he would offer his couch to you. Ive witnessed him many times doing this for complete strangers. People he would have met 5min ago. I always though that he was insane to do this, but he couldnt help himself. He couldnt let another human being suffer if he could help. This is the Basil Blair that i knew. I will miss you pops. But at least you left me with good memories. Fun and happy times. I hope your family reads this. I can finally move on now that i have gotten a chance to say good bye and tell all that werent really close what a great person you were.

Dear Barnett, it is so strange to be writing a eulogy for you when I’m still thinking of you as my jovial young cousin. Even though we never got together often I still thought of you quite regularly. I remember the last time we spoke was at Mom’s (your Cousin Gina’s) funeral. As usual, we hugged and promised we would stay in touch, but of course life dictated otherwise. Now you’ve left to visit. The Man Upstairs . May He welcome you with open arms Cuz and save you a peaceful place in his Everlasting Kingdom where. You will be reunited with all the family who are waiting there for you. You will be missed by all who knew and loved you here.
My sincere and heartfelt condolences go out to all my cousins: Daphne, Ned, Brenda, Leyland, Newton, Elaine, Cheryl and Olive. God Bless and keep you all in the Palm of His Hand. Sending Love . Please remember: “ Out of Sight but never out of Mind.”
Sincerely,

I've been missing Barnett since our early days in Toronto when we hung out together. I lost him when I left for work in Nunavut (NWT) in 1973. When I returned a few years later, nobody seemed to know his where-a-bouts. I was never successful in finding him/reconnecting, unti now. We had a fine time together, both as friends and family. I am sorry for the elasped time between then and now. I moved and lived in several other Provinces for work and/or school. I relegated and allowed him to exist only in my memory until recently when I was made aware of his passing. I am deeply saddened by this, and regret the time apart, not knowing how he was fareing.
Today, as he is being laid to rest, my best and most predominant memory, is of 1966 when, in Mackenzie (Linden), and I was preparing for a trip to Canada, he took the time to show/teach me to play the chords C,F, and G7 on the guitar. He told me these were basic chords which could be most easily used to play many Guyanese and Caribbean folk/regular songs.
Now, In my retirement, I spend much of my time playing and enjoying those chords and many more as I entertain both myself and friends/others. I am also able to keep myself musically and financially relevant today, for which, I have and will always be eternally thankful/grateful to, and credit my friend and family relationship, to Barnett. Rest in peace my L'il Cuz and friend. Until we are able to hang out again, bye!

Greetings all.
My name is Jennifer Blair and I'd like to share a fond memory to honor my uncle Barnett.
Though we didn't interact often, he left a lasting impression on me. When I was maybe seven years old (so, like 20 years ago ;) we would visit his home and I'd always notice the acoustic guitar against the wall. Uncle Barnett saw my interest and began teaching, my brother Romain and me strumming patterns and chords.
His patience and encouragement created moments of pure joy.
This is how I chose to remember Uncle Barnett.
Rest in peace.

This sentence comes to my mind: "Everyman's death diminishes me" and I'm certain that the entire family feels diminished by the absence of this brother. But the Scripture reminds us that we shouldn't mourn as those without hope because we have the solid hope of the resurrection through Christ Jesus, that we would all meet again.

It's with a heavy heart that I remember my dearest friend Barnett. I first met Barnett in the early 70's at Linden, we quickly became very close friends, he left Guyana before I did. However when I first arrived in Canada in 1977, Nedd picked me up in his Transam and took me over to Barnett's apartment. We immediately rekindled our friendship, fortunately for me, all three of us lived on Western Rd about five minutes walking distance from each other. Barnett continued to be a blessing to me in that when Canadian immigration came at my brother's apartment looking for me, Barnett told me I could move in with him until things cooled down. He even got married to a girlfriend of mine so she could stay in Canada. I could share a dozen stories of Barnett's big heart and genuine friendship.
But as I grieve along with all his friends and family, I will not be surprised to see my dear friend Barnett with his mother arise from his sleep in the first resurrection, when those asleep in Christ will rise first to be caught with Jesus' second advent.
Rest in eternal peace my brother from another mother.

A TRIBUTE TO BARNETT BLAIR FROM RICHARD HOOPER
Today, we gather here to honor and remember a truly remarkable individual, Basil Barnett Blair. Barnett, as we called him, was not just a friend; he was a beacon of kindness, guidance, and unwavering support in my life. His presence brought light to even the darkest days, and his departure leaves a void that cannot be filled.
Reflecting on our friendship, I am filled with gratitude for the countless moments of laughter, shared experiences, and profound conversations we had together. Barnett's generosity knew no bounds, and his willingness to offer help and guidance extended far beyond mere words.
His friendship was not defined by grand gestures or extravagant displays, but rather by the genuine care and concern he showed for those around him. Barnett was there for me in times of joy and celebration, as well as in moments of sadness and despair. His presence was a constant source of strength and comfort, and for that, I will be forever grateful.
Today, we bid farewell to my dear friend. I take solace in the memories we shared, and the impact he had on all who were fortunate to know him. Barnett's legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched, and his spirit will continue to inspire us to be kinder, more compassionate individuals.
Farewell my friend. Though you may no longer be with us in body, your presence will forever remain in our hearts. Thank you for being the epitome of friendship ----a friend in need, a true friend indeed.
Rest in peace Barnett. Rest in eternal peace my brother.

Barnett was my best friend in primary school.
I first found out that he was a good sprinter when at age ten he encouraged me to address an older girl in the school yard by a certain name.
I was new to the school and did not realize that the name was derogatory.
The girl attacked and all I saw where Barnett, whom we called Tez, was standing was a cloud of dust as he disappeared in the distance.
We reunited later at Mackenzie High School. He was always jovial.
He entertained me at his home after I arrived in Canada in 1982 and always entertained friends with his guitar.
I don't think that he had any enemies. Everyone will miss him. I know that I do. I share condolences with the Blair family.

A TRIBUTE TO BARNETT BLAIR FROM CONRAD GELOT
Upon my youthful arrival in Mackenzie, Barnett was a helpful and selfless guide to the protocols and frivolous delights under the bustling veneer of Mac-City. Years later, I walked into a club on Danforth Avenue in Toronto as a band was setting up and heard the guitar riff from the 1968 hit, "Tighten Up" by Archie Bell & The Drells. There on the guitar was none other than Barnett, easily displaying yet another skill from his arsenal of talents.
We shared many enjoyable times in Toronto, where Barnett put his unique personal stamp on generous hospitality, as his social skills transcended the boundaries of origin and his affable charm forged friendships deep into our adopted country.
Barnett defined living and shared a life that exemplified vibrancy over indolence, cultural outreach over isolation, reminding us that "Dans la nuit tous les chats sont gris".
AN IRREPLACEABLE GEM.

A TRIBUTE TO MY YOUNGER BROTHER BARNETT FROM NED AND MYRNA
Hopetown Village in Guyana was the place where our family was conceived following the union of Olive Hamilton and Inspector John Blair. Being a police officer, the family lived in several places, and subsequently moved to Mackenzie, where they were nurtured, housed, educated and found employment
The human activity of migration took its toll, and nationalization of the Bauxite Industry that drove Mackenzie, dealt the final blow. The Blair Family deserted the town for greener pastures, and for self advancement, and migrated to North America where they all led successful lives. Its a pity that our Father was not granted the opportunity to see the fruits of his labors, but our Mother lived to see the accomplishments of their children.
Two brothers, Ned and Barnett, chose Canada and settled in Toronto. Barnett lived with Myrna and I for a while. Ned delved into community work and Barnett proceeded to explore his new country, and run the town. Many persons are aware of what I am referencing. Even though the community is aware of my long-standing work with many organizations, Barnett was more well known and popular. The proof will be seen in the large turnout here..
I would like on behalf of the extended Blair and Hamilton families, to express our sincere appreciation to all of you as we commemorate Barnett's departure.
Walk good dear brother, until we meet again.
