Obituary of Dennis Cyril Baptiste

Dennis Cyril Baptiste was born in the island of Grenada in the year 1944 and move to Trinidad with his parents Peter and Philippa Baptiste at a very young age. He was a man of great talent A Tailor by profession in Trinidad in the earlier years of his life and during this time he attended John Donaldson technical Institute in Trinidad to develop his skills as an artist. His artwork could have been seen on display at the National Museum in Trinidad for a number of years. He even won the Chase Manhattan bank award in 1964 for one of his paintings.

After graduating from the John Donaldson Institute, he was presented with lucrative employment opportunities inclusive of job offers at media houses and prominent advertising agencies in Trinidad. He held a job at the express newspaper in Trinidad for a while. Dennis then decided to migrate to Canada around the year 1972 to seek a better lifestyle for himself and gained employment at the prestigious television station The Canadian broadcasting corporation also referred to as CBC. During his time at the CBC he was able to utilize his skills as an artist to make a name for himself. The CBC was his place of employment until his retirement as a manager of the scenic art department. He married Marva Boyea in the year 1980 together they had three children Natalie, Denny, and Denise. He previously had an older daughter named Alison.

Dennis was the grandfather two seven,  four boys Che, Dahweed, David, Andrew, and three girls Denielle, Aleika, and Triniy. Dennis also had 2 great grandchildren by the names of Dior and akzen. A people person with a friendly disposition, Dennis Baptiste made an impression with many persons he came in contact with. He was fondly called Miguel By most of his close friends.

ABOUT MY GRANDPA:

Grandpa loved The culture of Trinidad and Tobago, namely steel bad music, Calypso, and Soca. He was a great cook and loved to boast about his cooking of the best curry goat. It was a pleasure for him to entertain friends and family. He had also loved style and fashion with an eye for well-designed clothes, and often described anyone who was a stylish dresser as a fashionista. When I was very young I remember my mother telling me that my estimated due date to be born was on March 7 and I was actually born on March 10. In my young brain I thought this had meant that I had two birthdays. When I was around the age of six on March 7 I was home alone with Grandpa and I had told him that today was supposed to be my birthday and nobody is here. He had thought my birthday was on March 10 and was very confused how everybody would have forgotten my birthday. So he decorated the house, bought me a cake, took me shopping, played music in the house and threw a party for just the two of us. My grandma had later come home and he asked her how did you forget the child’s birthday? And she told him my birthday wasn’t for a few more days. So I ended up getting two birthday parties that year and I had remembered it being the best thing ever. Grandpa, words cannot express how much we all will miss you, just know that you will always be a part of our hearts forever.
