MY EULOGY FOR DAD – my father-in-law
Good morning. My name is Lou and I am Joe's daughter-in-law, wife of his oldest son Andrew. My husband told me that I should keep this under 2 minutes but how can you put 30 years worth of fond memories in 2 minutes? We don't hear too much about Fathers In-Law but I have to say that my Father in-law was one of the best out there and let me tell you why. I've known him for close to 30 years and he has treated me like his very own daughter from the very first time he met me and has accepted not only me but my extended family and some of them are here today. With his strong Jamaican Patois and my Philippine twang, somehow we managed to connect. He was the kindest, the sweetest and was very generous of his time towards me and my family. Years ago when he was still strong and able, he helped my husband built my basement, my deck along with the fense and anything else that needs to be done at my house all for free. He did it out of his love for us. He was just happy that he was able to help us and also to make sure that it was done properly. Everything that he built was solid and was made to last a lifetime. He was a master builder by heart. He loves to build anything from scratch with his bare hands. In fact, he was still working and renovating his new house in Jamaica up until last year at the age of 91.
He was very loving, affectionate and a very protective husband to his beloved wife, Mom Lena. Such a very simple couple who just enjoy being with each other. Both of them loves CNN and I think Dad knows more of what is going on in the world than me. It would be very strange not seeing him in his Lazy Boy chair without him in there when I visit his apartment.
He was a very proud man. Very proud of all his children's accomplishments no matter how small or big it is. He was always there for them if they needed him; ready to listen and ready to give advise when requested. I've never seen him push them to do more. He believes in them and they never failed him.
He loves his grandchildren. They were his accomplishments. His eyes light up when they call him on the phone and hear them say "grampa" he loved them all the same with all his heart.
Dad, I know you can hear me. In fact, you probably have the best seat in the house right now having your chicken wings with your favourite cup of tea. I just wanted to tell you how grateful and blessed I am that I've known you and how much we love you. May you rest in peace.
