To me, Mr. Morrissey was the quintessential gentleman.
A man of peaceable speech and disposition.
A man always immaculately dressed – he was a real saga-boy.
A man never contentious or boastful, he truly walked placidly amid the noise, serving his God and parish with distinction and wisdom.
A man with whom I enjoyed many an engaging banter over a wide range of topics including cricket, calypso and ‘man-talk’.
A man most generous in nature and especially renown for that special ginger-beer he shared with the parish both on special occasions and in between. A brew that was as soothing as his countenance and as refreshing as his smile.
While fellow-Antiguan icon, the Mighty Swallow once sang, ‘the man with the pepper sauce is boss’, to all of us at St Stephen Church, the man with the ginger-beer remains very dear!
Peaceful rest, Brother Fitzroy! You will be sorely missed!!
