Tribute to My Brother-in-Law, Louie Augustus Armstrong Today, I speak with deep sorrow and love as I honour the life of my dear brother-in-law, Louie Augustus Armstrong, who passed away on May 23, 2026, in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Although words can never fully express the sadness of losing him, I want to share just how much he meant to me and how deeply he will be missed. Louie was more than my brother-in-law—he was truly family in every sense of the word. He had a warmth about him, a kindness that made people feel at ease, and a quiet strength that stayed with you. He was someone whose presence mattered. The care he showed, the love he gave, and the calm way he carried himself are things I will always remember. When I think of Louie, I think of the memories we shared and the moments that now feel even more precious. I think of family times together, our conversations, the laughter we shared, and the comfort of simply being in his presence. There was something special about Louie that made even ordinary moments meaningful. Today, I joined his funeral service by livestream because I could not be there in person, and even from a distance, I felt the love that surrounded him. As I watched and remembered, I felt both the pain of this loss and the deep gratitude of having known him. That is what I will carry with me—the memory of a man who was loved, respected, and treasured by his family. To his daughters, my nieces (Christine and Charlene), my sister (Elizabeth), extended family, and everyone who loved him, I pray that you will find comfort in the memories he leaves behind and strength in the love that surrounds you. Louie will always be remembered with love, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though we grieve his loss, we also give thanks for the gift of his life, the kindness he showed, and the memories that will remain with us forever. May he rest in eternal peace, and may we continue to carry his memory with love, gratitude, and honour. Love Yvonne

I have very nice work location memories reminded me of a 'gentle giant', such a very sweet personality, always smiling with beautiful white 'choppers' ie teeth. Rest In Peace my Hydro buddy. To Louie Family First and foremost, please accept my deepest condolences. I know this is an incredibly difficult time for all of you, and I pray that God will surround you with comfort and strength as you navigate this loss. A very special expression of sympathy goes out to his daughters Charlene, Christine, and Cyanna. May God hold each of you close as you grieve your father’s passing. I met Louie at Vaughan Road Collegiate in 1975/ 1976, shortly after he migrated from Jamaica. We became fast friends almost instantly, and from that moment on, he was the brother I never had. Not only did we attend the same school, but we also lived in the same building at 110 Marlee Avenue — a blessing I didn’t fully appreciate until years later. Louie was the first one in our circle to buy a car, and we spent countless hours driving up and down Eglinton Avenue and Yonge Street, trying our best to look cool. As we graduated from high school and college, our friendship never changed. We were each other’s “wing man,” and those were some of the best years of our lives. Over the years, we even tried our hand at a few business adventures. Not all of them were successful — far from it — but we never gave up hope that one day we’d hit that big jackpot. What mattered most was the dreaming, the laughter, and the belief that together we could take on anything. We even attempted playing golf at one point — but that was definitely a no. The golf course wasn’t ready for us, and we quickly realized our talents were better suited elsewhere. Still, it became another memory we laughed about for years. Louie was also a quiet man of faith. He was baptized and accepted Christ as his Saviour, securing his seat next to the Lord. He lived with integrity, humility, and a steady spirit that reflected his belief. And because of his name — Louie Armstrong — people often questioned him about it. Whenever they did, he would burst out singing “What a Wonderful World” to prove he was indeed that Louis Armstrong. Of course, he sounded nothing like theeeeeee Louie Armstrong, but that was exactly what made it so funny and so perfectly him. Even as life brought its share of changes and challenges, our bond remained constant. We could always count on each other — whether it was to talk, build a basement, fix a car, or take on some project we probably had no business attempting. We always believed we could do it ourselves, whether because we were that skilled or simply too cheap to pay someone else. Those moments became the stories that shaped our friendship. Now my “wing man” has been called to his heavenly home. May he rest in eternal peace until we meet again in glory. So take a bow, my brother. Rest well.
