Obituary of Dwight Hamilton

It is with great sadness that the family of Dwight Donovan Hamilton announces his passing on May 2, 2026 at the age of 63.

Dwight was born in Kingston, Jamaica on April 1, 1963. From a young age, Dwight loved all things outdoors and as a young boy he spent his time running around the neighbourhood and playing outside for hours. He loved to fish, as well as catch frogs and crayfish with his cousins. In 1972, at age 9, Dwight immigrated with his family from Jamaica to Chatham Ontario and later settled in Kitchener, Ontario.

A lover of sports and an avid fitness enthusiast, Dwight spent his teens playing basketball and football. He continued basketball into his adulthood before taking up cycling and golf.

After high school, Dwight studied Business Administration at Mohawk College, and graduated in 1984. He met and began dating his future wife, Paula in 1985. In 1992, Dwight and Paula married, eventually settled in Brampton, had their first child two years later and subsequently had three other children. Dwight loved his role as father and head of a busy household.

Taking advantage of his studies in Business Administration, Dwight spent years working in management positions for businesses around the GTA, with deep knowledge in the shipping and automotive industries. He later transitioned into working for Canada Post as a letter carrier, where he made many friends and forged strong bonds with those around him.

With an infectious laugh that filled every room, a booming voice, wide smile, and endless banter, Dwight made friends with everyone he met. Dwight will forever be remembered by the love of his life, Paula, the four children they shared, Jamal, Bria, Bryson, and Malik, his mother Ruby, sister Denise, brother Clive, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and the many friends that he has made throughout his lifetime.

Dwight was predeceased by his father, Sedley Hamilton.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests that you make a donation in Dwight’s honour to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
