Obituary of Laflin Murray
It is with profound sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Laflin Murray on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 78 years old. He was comforted by the presence of family and love at the end.
Born on April 9, 1948, in Litchfield, Trelawny, Jamaica, to Nazerine and Uton Murray. Laflin was raised with a strong work ethic and a generous spirit that would define him throughout his remarkable life.
From an early age, he demonstrated a gift for craftsmanship, learning the art of tailoring at 19 and opening his own business in Litchfield by the age of 20, an achievement that reflected his determination and confidence.
In 1976, Laflin began a new chapter, immigrating to Winnipeg, Manitoba, before settling in Toronto in 1977, a city he would call home for nearly five decades. That same year, he began his career at Nestlé Canada, where he worked as a Coffee Crisp Layering Operator for an extraordinary 38 years, retiring 14 years ago. He took immense pride in his work and never missed an opportunity to share a little sweetness with those he loved. Bringing home Coffee Crisp bars, Aero chocolate, and other Nestlé treats for his family and friends. It became his signature gesture, as warm and dependable as he was.
In retirement, Laflin was blessed to spend his winters in Jamaica, a place that brought him peace and renewal. Each time he returned, he carried a visible glow, refreshed in spirit and uplifted by the love of family and friends who surrounded him. He truly loved and enjoyed those times, especially gathering with his many loved ones and welcoming them into his cherished home.
Laflin’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. A devoted member of New Life Covenant Centre (NLCC), he served faithfully as an usher and gave generously of his time through the Senior Care Ministry, Loving Kindness Ministry, Male Voice Choir, and Men’s Ministry. Year after year, he supported Vacation Bible School with donations.
He was a loving father, a devoted grandfather, a caring brother, a cherished cousin, and a dear friend to many. He lived a life rooted in kindness, humility, and faith, and his love touched countless lives. Though he is no longer with us, the love he gave, the faith he carried, and the memories he created will continue to live on in our hearts, guiding and comforting us always.
Laflin is survived by his three grandchildren, Jaleel Murray, Kia Sampson, Breanne Murray, and his beloved great-granddaughter, Aliyah Rose Murray-Reeves. He is also survived by his sisters, Donna Murray-Dobson, Beverlyn Murray-Paisley, along with a wide circle of relatives, friends, and his church family at NLCC. He was predeceased by his beloved children, Levern Murray and Rose Murray. His sister, Gwendolyn James, and his brother, Gilbert Mendez.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and medical staff for their compassionate care, as well as to the many friends and family whose prayers, love, and support have carried us through this difficult time. We are deeply thankful for every call, visit, and kind gesture. While our hearts grieve, we are reminded that Laflin would not want us to be overcome with sorrow, but to hold onto joy. So, we ask that you celebrate his life, cherish the memories he gave us, and carry forward the love, laughter, and faith that he so freely shared with all.
