Obituary of Carmen Rosetta Sutherland

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Carmen Rosetta Sutherland.

Affectionately known as “Elvis”, Carmen was surrounded by her family when she was called home on April 16, 2026.  

She is survived by her devoted husband Leonard, her loving sons Orville (Simone) and Otis (Tammie). She will be dearly missed by all of her siblings, especially her sister Sonia and her five granddaughters Serena, Kyra, Alyese, Isla and Naomi.  Carmen Nembhard was born in Jointwood, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, and moved to Red Ground, St. Catherine after the passing of her mother, Violet. It was there in 1968 that Carmen met Leon Sutherland while working at the local post office. The couple emigrated to Toronto in 1970 and were married in 1976. They were set to celebrate their 50^th wedding anniversary this September.

After training as a personal support worker, Carmen had a successful 27-year career in healthcare. She fulfilled her dream of building a home in Old Harbour, Jamaica -- spending her retirement near the community where her young family began almost 60 years ago. 

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin and friend, Carmen will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
