In 2014, I was working from home full-time land was like a hermit, when I received an invitation to a rum tasting event at a The Real Jerk restaurant. That's where I met Ed, a friendly, and accommodating person who invited me to karaoke nights at his restaurant, which soon became a weekly ritual for me. He would share a cognac with me and friends when we visited and have great convos on economics and current events. The restaurant felt like a refuge, a place where I belonged, thanks to the warm welcome from both the staff and attendees. I'm grateful to have met Ed and his incredible staff and wonderful family .Ed will always be remembered as a pioneer in entrepreneurship, success, and leaving a lasting legacy. So I toast to him today and pray for peace and comfort over his family and send my sincere condolences.

Hello Lilly, this is Lazo extending sincere condolences to you, the children and the rest of the family.
Both you and Ed were a great inspiration to me.
Your work ethic and dedication was second to none. You taught me what commitment and vision was all about.
I first met you in the late 80's when you had a tiny takeout at Queen and Greenwood which evolved to become the world famous The Real Jerk Restaurant.
Our first encounter is when I came in to buy two vegie patties from Ed, and caught the street car to my band rehearsal, only to find out after the first bite he mistakenly sold me two beef patties( you know how rasta feel about eating beef). I quickly got of the the streetcar and got on the next one back to the restaurant. I was furious, but Ed was so cool and humble, while apologising to me, so from that day on we forged a strong relationship.

We fondly remember your original location on Queen St. E. near Greenwood back in the day, then followed you to the Broadview/Queen location and now to your present location at Carlaw/Gerrard. Our family has always enjoyed your delicious food & the cool vibes at everyone of your restaurants.

Ed was a very unique gentleman. We met in his High School Years at Monarch Park SS., he was in my class along with many other’s classmates He was always smiling, everyone loved him, from Football Games , Weekend Parties we would Dance the hours away. Several of us frequent the Original & New location of The Real Jerk. Many times after High School Reunions we would drop by for Ed’s Delicious Jamaican Specialities. My utmost condolences for Lily, Troy, Cleigh, June and the extended Pottinger family.
It is really hard to fathom that I will never see Ed again. Ed and Lily started a restaurant that was so needed in Toronto. The black community was only richer for its presence and gave us the culture that we all craved so much! All Torontonians were invited to enjoy the cultural pride of The Real Jerk and delighted in the wonderful food, music and vibe that it still offers.
Ed was a mentor, friend and advisor to so many. He helped us, guided us, laughed with us and told us off, but most of all he listened to us and saw our potential.
I worked at The Real Jerk and The Real Jerk Pit, and had some of the best times of my life there, I made bonds with friends that I still have today. We have so many cherished memories of the good times and laughs we shared.
Thank you Ed for all that you did for us, you may not of known it but you gave us so, so much. We know that you loved us!
I'm sure Heaven is even more irie with you there! Rest in peace Eddie.

My condolences to the Pottinger family. Ed gave me and my sister our first job on arriving in Canada as international students. We were and are still grateful to him and his wife Ms Lilly for taking a chance on us.Ed was always so warm, generous and welcoming that he helped make me a little less homesick on first coming to Canada. Dear Ed,
I am deeply saddened that you left us. I remember very well the first time we met. You were sitting at the bar, watching sports game on TV, and I was all shy to ask you for a job. And you were nice and joyful right away, as you usually are and as I will remember you. You asked me why I moved to Toronto and I answered « Why not » and this became a funny answer between us. You were patient with my French accent and you could talk about anything with anyone, always happy to share. You will be missed by many people for sure, and I will remember you, smiling. I send my sincere condolences to your family.
