Obituary of Monica Dennie

Life Sketch for Monica Dennie

Monica Dennie, our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, church sister, community champion, and amazing friend, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, surrounded by her family. Monica was born in Resource, Manchester, Jamaica, to her beloved parents Vincent and Cloris Allen, and was the baby and last survivor of their seven children. From early on, she learned the value of faith, family, and hard work, foundations that guided her entire life.

As a young woman, Monica emigrated to England in 1962, where she later married and eventually welcomed three children, Garfield, Audrey and Vincent. In 1970, she returned to Jamaica for a time before emigrating, yet again in 1972, this time to Canada, which would become her long‑term home. In each move she carried with her a quiet courage and a deep commitment to creating better opportunities for her family.

In Canada, Monica worked first as an office clerk and then found her true calling in caregiving as a nursing assistant. She served faithfully in a home for the aged with the City of Toronto and later at Kipling Acres and Wesburn Manor nursing homes until her retirement in 2009. Her colleagues and the residents knew her as compassionate, dependable, and devoted to the dignity and comfort of those in her care. Although retired, she continued to volunteer in the community and with her church community.

Education and learning held an important place in Monica’s story. She attended Grove Town Primary School in Jamaica and later continued her education at George Brown College in Toronto, further equipping herself for her work and service. Her perseverance and willingness to grow inspired those around her, especially her children and extended family. As she did in her work life, she continued to learn, taking Learn for Life courses at every opportunity.

As a strong and faithful member of the Seventh‑day Adventist Church, Monica loved the Lord with all her heart and shaped her life around that enduring faith. She longed to see her children walk in that same hope, and she prayed for them constantly, entrusting each one to God’s care. Her love for her family was limitless, and she never missed an opportunity to tell everyone how precious her children were to her.

Monica’s legacy is one of faith, service, and unwavering devotion. She leaves behind children ,grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, church family, friends, and former colleagues who will forever cherish her tenacious spirit, everlasting kindness, steadfast prayers, and her warm and encouraging words. In her own handwriting she left us this message: “Love you all with all my heart. Blessings to you all.”
