Obituary of Elisha Smith
Elisha Smith, affectionately known as “Lisha”, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Etobicoke General Hospital, surrounded by the unwavering love of his family. His gentle spirit, steady presence, and deep devotion to those he cared for remained with him until his final moments.
Born on April 17, 1951 at Friendship District, St. Catherine, Jamaica; Lisha was the eighth of eleven children born to the late Theodore and Lorietha Smith. Growing up in a large, close-knit family shaped his lifelong values of generosity, humility, and loyalty—qualities that defined him throughout his 74 years.
In 1976, Elisha immigrated to Canada through the Farm Work Program, where he began a new chapter filled with growth and opportunity. During this time, he was blessed with four children: Carlton (Paul), Ophia (Hillary), Althia, and Marlon. Some years later, Elisha met the love of his life, Wilma (Merle), and together they shared a beautiful and enduring courtship. They were married on August 9, 1986, and through their union welcomed two children, Damion and Jordon.
Elisha dedicated 35 years of loyal service to Woodbridge Foam Company, a commitment that reflected both his character and his values. Throughout his long career, he was known for his strong work ethic, unwavering reliability, and willingness to take pride in every task he undertook. Elisha approached his work with diligence and integrity, earning the respect of colleagues and supervisors alike. For him, working was not just a responsibility but a way to honor his commitment to providing for his family. His dedication ensured stability and security for those he loved, and he took deep pride in knowing that his efforts helped build a better life for them. Elisha’s years at Woodbridge Foam Company stand as a testament to his perseverance, dependability, and devotion to both his profession and his family.
A man of deep faith, shaped by his Seventh Day Adventist upbringing, Elisha found renewed spiritual peace. Before his passing he met with Pastor Barnaby of the Brampton Seventh Day Adventist Church. This meaningful visit provided reassurance that Elisha had recommitted himself to the Lord, and it brought peace in knowing that his faith was steady as he prepared for his eternal rest. His family takes comfort in knowing he reaffirmed his commitment to the Lord in his final days.
Lisha will be remembered for his infectious laughter, quick wit, love of music and dancing, and his remarkable ability to bring joy to whomever he came in contact. His charm, humor, and “gift of gab” made him unforgettable, while his compassion and generosity revealed a man with a true heart of gold.
He faced his illness with quiet courage, choosing to protect those he loved from worry. In his final days, the presence of family brought him immense comfort and joy.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Wilma (Merle) Smith; 6 children: (2 daughters: Ophia (Hillary) Smith-Grey and Althia Smith and 4 sons: Carlton (Paul) Smith, Marlon Smith, Damion Smith, and Jordon Smith; 2 daughters-in-law: Mellisa Smith and Samantha Code ; 1 son-in-law: Lincoln (Marcel) Grey; 2 sisters: Viola (Marie) Smith-Squire and Patricia (Dora) Smith-King; 3 brothers: Renford (Renny) Smith, Cornelius (Hap) Smith, and Simeon (Busta) Smith; 6 sisters-in-law: Noralee (Tilda) Smith, Cedonia (Cid) Smith, Hazel Smith, Olive Smith, Gee Smith, and Janet McCalla; 3 brothers-in-law: Victor King, Hervin Douglas, and Donald Carter; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins, other extended family members and friends. Lisha will remain in our hearts forever.
Lovingly Submitted,
The Family
