Obituary of Alesia Ruth Elizabeth Simpson

Barrie, ON
January 6, 1977 - November 7, 2025

Alesia Ruth Elizabeth Simpson, age 48, was called home to be with her Lord and Saviour, on the early evening of November 7, 2025, after a courageous battle with Leukemia. Never giving up the fight or hope of recovery, Alesia faced her illness with courage, resolve and grace.

Born and raised in August Town, St. Andrew, Jamaica, Alesia was deeply rooted in her Jamaican culture. It wasn’t uncommon to witness Alesia celebrating through the music, dance, cuisine, language and cultural traditions of her people. Alesia immigrated to Canada in 2001, residing in Brampton, ON for almost two decades before relocating to Barrie, ON in 2017.

Alesia was a zealous learner and had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. In her early years, she was a top student at Excelsior High School, not only excelling in her subjects but also in sports and extra-curricular activities such as basketball and Drama Club, where she delivered several poetry pieces and assisted with organizing presentations and plays. Alesia was an avid reader and had a special love for poetry. Her favorite poet and folklorist was Louise Bennett-Coverley (Miss Lou). In 2013, Alesia graduated from Humber College with Honours, earning her Social Service Worker Diploma and obtaining permanent full-time employment with the City of Toronto, as a Case Manager at Ontario Works. With an educational background in Social Services, as well as lived experience, Alesia possessed the ability to provide support from a place of empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard.

Alesia was a devoted child of God, christened as an infant and baptized as a young adult. She found peace and comfort in the word of God, as well as his guidance and protection over her life, allowing him to order each of her steps in his name. Alesia graduated from Metro Bible College in 2010, earning a Diploma in Christian Education where she was trained in areas such as Psychology and Counselling, Family Counselling, Community Outreach and Crisis Intervention. In recent years, with God guiding her path, Alesia obtained her certification as an ordained minister.

Known for her authentic, free-spirited, selfless and humorous ways, Alesia was an extraordinary woman. She was loving, caring, protective and incredibly loyal. If she loved you, you felt it to your core. Alesia was humble and grateful for life. In her final years, she made a decision to prioritize her health and well-being, successfully achieving the best version of herself and it was an absolute honour to witness the level of confidence, dedication and self-love that she possessed during that time.

Alesia is survived by her mother Faith Eubanks; brothers David (Tammy), Andrew, Pepsi, and Amed; sister Stephanie (George); nephews Sean, Georgio and Matteo; Niece J-Dean; and great-niece Jayla (her pride and joy). Alesia also leaves behind several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, including her two best friends Yvonne and Angella.

Alesia was predeceased by her father, Amaziah Simpson, her stepfather, Douglas Eubanks, and her sister, Sonia, as well as both her maternal and paternal grandparents.

As a tribute to her life, we will leave you with this scripture:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and other staff at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and Royal Victoria Hospital, for providing compassion, kindness and quality care, and to everyone who visited or called Alesia during her hospitalization.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at New Haven Funeral Centre, located at 7025 Legion Road, Mississauga, ON. Visitation will be held at 2:00 PM, followed by a service at 3:00 PM. Refreshments provided. Cremation to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Leukemia Research Foundation, or to a charity of your choice.
