I met Sylvia working at Toronto western in Neurosurgery. She was always kind, always helpful, and always a motherly figure. You could always talk to her about anything, and she was always ready to help. She took great care of her patients, and her colleagues alike. Though your job doesn’t define you, she was a perfect fit for a caring profession.
My condolences to her closest friends and family, who surely are feeling a significant loss at this time.
You never know when the last time you speak to someone will be, and it makes you realize that you should have probably told them how amazing they were at least once…how easy to talk to, get along with, and have a laugh with.
You will always be missed,
Michelle Sheridan

I want to send my deepest condolence to Sylvia's family and friends. May God bring you comfort during this difficult time.
I met Sylvia 10 years ago when I started working in the neurosciences. She taught me how to care for very sick patients in neuro. I was nervous, scared and excited all at the same time at starting my first nursing job. Being the incredible woman that she was, she taught me patiently, showed me through example how caring for the most vulnerable of patients was possible through love, expertise and compassion. She taught and mentored many of us novice nurses, and demonstrated what it mean to be a caring, dedicated and compassionate nurse leader. Her leadership helped us through a lot of challenging times, but what I loved the most was her sense of humour.
She never lost out on an opportunity to make us laugh. My favourite memory was during my last Nurses' Week on the unit where she made nurse hats out of paper and wore it on her head like old times. She made one for Maurine as well. They both made all of us laugh, all day. If anyone ever needed help, she'd step up and help us. She protected us fiercely and took care of us. She gave me a hug on the difficult days and a scolding when she expected more of me. I teased her every shift for 3 months before I left the unit saying she would miss me and my trouble when I was gone.
But most of all, I will miss our afternoon tea time. This 5 minute tradition every afternoon was a pick me up to get us through the rest of our long shifts. I will miss our little break room chats where she encouraged me to keep my head up, keep working hard and achieve my dreams.
I hope you're looking down fondly on the lives you've touched and legacy you've left behind Sylvia. Rest well. Until we see each other again.
Love,
Grissel

Sylvia was absolutely one of the best people that I ever had the pleasure of knowing. She was caring, understanding and a loving aunt to my children. I always thought of her as one of my sisters. She meant a lot to us and she is definitely missed. She was a very sweet and thoughtful person. When her dad passed away in the USA, she came to help our family planned and coordinated his funeral and was there for us even afterwards to help us get through that difficult time. We miss her.

My deepest condolences to Sylvia and her family. We are close enough to say we are cousins that’s what I consider her to be. Sylvia joined our extended family for a number of years while attending nursing school and I am telling you that profession was for her, a caring and loving individual who knows how to show empathy. Rest well my dearest cousin.
Plenty hugs and kisses. Debbie

My condolences to Sylvia's family and work family. She was an amazing person who touched so my lives. Her caring soul and beautiful heart will be forever missed.
I knew Sylivia for close to 15 years and although we worked on different units she acted as a mentor to what a great nurse truly is. I will always cherish my moment with Sylvia and hope that she is at peace, knowing how many lives she affected just by being herself. Rest in peace, even though it is way to soon for you to leave us!

My condolences to Sylvia's mom, siblings, family and friends. I am truly sorry for your loss.
Sylvia was a precious soul and a dear friend to me. It is very difficult thinking that I will never see you again my friend.
Thank you for the happy memories. Thank you for your friendship, your love and your kindness, I will always be grateful.
You were not only always ready to help, you were always seeking to help others. Thank you for having such a big, kind heart. When I think about never seeing you in this life again I take courage, knowing that being absent from the body, you are present with our Lord (2 Cor 5:8), with no physical limitations!
I know you're celebrating with Jesus as He welcomes you home.
Until we meet again my friend. I will never forget you!

I am very sad to hear that Sylvia has passed. I worked with her at TWH as a resident and then as a faculty and she stood out as compassionate, caring, and had a wicked sense of humor. She was unfailingly supportive of all of us as trainees and then as staff neurologists. I will miss her. She was part of the heart of that unit.

To My Big Sis Sylvia a.k.a my other boss I would jokingly say
From the moment I met you, your beauty caught my eye (what a natural beauty!!!, sooo pretty!! )—but it was your heart that truly stayed with me.
Every shift, without missing a beat, you’d remind me to spend time with my kids. I’ll never forget how you always asked about my kids with such warmth and genuine care.
It’s those little things I miss the most—your voice calling me mama, your kindness, your presence that felt like home.
Thank you for being a kind person who made life sweeter just by being in it.
Rest peacefully, beautiful soul. I miss you sooo much
With love, Patience
