Obituary of Evangelist Marjorie Gayle-Griffith

Evangelist Marjorie Elaine Gayle Griffith, aged 63, beloved mother, sister in Christ, aunt and friend to many; went home to be with the Lord on July 14,2025.

Born at Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston Jamaica on November 22, 1961, Marjorie is the daughter of Mr. William Gayle and Mrs. Leslyn Shirley Gayle. Her mother Leslyn was a homemaker while living in Jamaica, and her father William was an electrician working for Public Service in Jamaica. Marjorie is the eldest of their 5 children; Jennifer, Marcia, Deborah & Leon Gayle. The family emigrated to Canada in 1977 when Marjorie was 16 years old.

Before coming to Canada Marjorie began studying Cosmetology in Jamaica and was certified as a Hairdresser in Toronto Ontario Canada. She earned her diploma from Marca College and advanced certificates from Dudley’s in the USA. Her first hair salon was built by her husband Michael Griffith in the basement of their home. This would be the stepping stone to her defining career as a Cosmologist and Salon owner. Her client base was built grassroots in her home, Michael offering traditional breakfast to clients on Saturdays, always sharing laughter and an honest welcome. This venture ended up being the catalyst to lifelong bonds and extended family from these wonderful patrons.

Her first salon, En vogue beauty salon opened in 1990 on Weston Road. After years of success, she later relocated to Eglinton Ave. West. Through the course of these years Marjorie participated in several hair shows in the USA showcasing her skills and salon on a global platform. In 1992 & 1993 she successfully won competitions abroad, bringing home trophy's, solidifying her achievement. Mrs. Griffith became a Cosmetology teacher with several Post Secondary Colleges and an apprentice trainer for the Toronto District School Board and Skilled Trades Ontario, to upcoming stylists seeking their cosmetology license in Ontario. When Sister Marjorie gave her life to Christ, it was a life altering choice as not only did she become saved, her husband and children followed suit. It was the witnessing of her friends that made this change possible. Under the leadership of Bishop Allison of Bethel Born Again Church of Jesus Christ, Kingston Jamaica, she was ordained Evangelist alongside her husband, ordained Elder, in 1996. Evangelist Griffith would go on to spread the gospel to everyone she could, winning many souls for the kingdom of God and fellowshipping and serving with other assemblies. Honourably noting the assemblies, she was members of: The Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic Bishop Campbell, The Church of Jesus Christ the Apostles Foundation Bishop Peynado, The Brotherhood of Christ Healing Temple Ministries Inc. Pastor Kayala Knight-Gordon & Bishop Atkinson and Sacred Heart International Pastor & Bishop Pennycooke.

Evangelist Marjorie was a beloved mother, valued wife, passionate stylist and mighty woman of God. Faithfully married to Elder Michael Griffith for 35 years, having 4 children:  Tamika, Jamar, Melissa and Matthew . She is survived by not only by her 4 children, but also 19 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and extended family and friends.

Marjorie is loved, appreciated and will be missed forever.

“My mother's gifts of courage to me were both large and small. The latter are woven so subtly into the fabric of my psyche that I can hardly distinguish where she stops and I begin. I really saw clearly, and for the first time, why a mother is really important. Not just because she feeds and also loves and cuddles and even mollycoddles a child, but because in an interesting and maybe an eerie and unworldly way, she stands in the gap. She stands between the unknown and the known”
