Sunrise: February 27th, 1954 — Sunset: June 12th, 2025

It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Mertel, who departed this life peacefully to be with the Lord. Mertel was beloved mother, cherished grandmother, beloved sister, and faithful servant of God, whose kindness, strength, and unwavering faith touched all who knew her.

Mertel leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience in the hearts of her children: Wayne, Peter, Kevin, Kadian, Leanna, and David. Her nurturing spirit and generous heart live on through her grandchildren: Sashani, Jaden, Nathan, Nolle, Sarah and Samara, Xian, Nyra, Knox and Ashiel who were each blessed by her wisdom, warmth, and endless prayers. She was further blessed with great-grandchildren Demetrius and Danteus, who brought her immense joy in her later years.

Mertel is also mourned by her dear brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family members who will forever cherish her memory. Her close-knit church family at Toronto Mount Zion Church of the Apostles grieves the loss of a steadfast pillar of faith, whose presence was a beacon of grace, peace, and devotion in their house of worship.

A woman of deep conviction and grace, Mertel spent her life in service to others, rooted in humility and compassion. Her hands were never idle, her door always open, and her heart always full of prayer and love.

She has run her race with courage and faith and now rests in the arms of her Savior. Though we mourn her physical absence, we celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the legacy of love she leaves behind. Her memory will forever be a blessing.
