Obituary of Clarice Icilda Marriott
May 21, 1925 to February 18, 2025.
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Mrs. Claris Icilda Marriott at the age of 99 years old. Miss Claris, as she was affectionately called, quietly went to be with the Lord on February 18, surrounded by family and friends after a brief illness.
With her life filled with so much joy, it is no wonder that she came from the beautiful island of Jamaica. Mrs. Claris Marriott was born in the district of Unity, St Andrew, Jamaica by Cecil Hamilton and Miriam Ivy and she was the second of 7 siblings. She attended the Unity Public school; however, she had to forfeit her education to help her mother care for her siblings when their father passed away unexpectedly. Though she never got the opportunity to finish school, her wisdom was beyond her years. She excelled at math and was not a person who could be easily fooled or robbed. There was not a penny that could be taken nor money that she was not aware of, she was a woman with excellent financial records.
In 1962 Claris married Joseph Marriott and that union produced 3 children, which added to her first child from a previous relationship. Her family was her pride and joy, she always took great care of them and the community around her to the best of her ability. If you needed a shirt, she would give you the one right off her back. In addition to taking care of her family, Mrs. Claris Marriott was a great entrepreneur who was in the business of buying and selling produce at the markets. Whatever she did, it was done with love, faith and integrity.
In 1990 at the age of 64, Mrs. Claris Marriott and her late husband Joseph, migrated to Canada to live with their daughter Ivy, with whom she lived until her passing on February 18. Her life here in Canada continued to thrive and she was blessed with the ability to see and leave an impressionable mark on her grandchildren, her great grandchildren and her great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Claris Icilda Marriott was a remarkable lady, she loved enjoying great food as she herself was a wonderful cook, humble, kind-hearted, loving, peaceful, and full of wisdom. She was strong, independent and rooted in Christ. She had often said that her long life is attributed to having faith in God, exercising and being kind to those around her. If you want to live long, you must be kind!
Although she will be missed, she has left an indelible impression on her family for generations to come. As one who was always dancing, we know she is now dancing in heaven. Family and friends will be gathered at the New Haven Funeral Centre to celebrate the amazing life of MISS CLARIS!
