Obituary of Mansel Anthony Bucknor
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Mansel Anthony Bucknor, treasured by all who knew him as Tony, on January 30, 2025, at Etobicoke General Hospital. Tony was a beacon of kindness and warmth in this world; his unwavering spirit touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts.
Born on May 14, 1964, in Annotto Bay, St. Mary, Jamaica, to Etta and Elijah Bucknor, Tony was the third of seven siblings. Growing up in a tight-knit family, he learned the values of love and support early on, shaped by the unbreakable bonds he formed with his relatives. His Aunt in Westmorland lovingly remembered him as a gentle and sweet boy, full of promise.
Following his secondary education, Tony embarked on a remarkable career, serving under influential figures such as Eli Matalon, Jamaica’s first Minister of National Security and Justice. The experiences in his ambitious journey eventually led him to Canada in 1990, where he continued to navigate life's ups and downs with quiet resilience and grace.
Tony’s unwavering faith was a constant throughout most of his life. He faced adversity with an admirable composure, often proclaiming, “I trust God.” He joined Miracle Area For All Nations in 2013, where he dedicated himself to serving as part of the Protocol Team, led maintenance, and mentored countless young people who admired his kindness and patience. Even during his health struggles, he remained a source of encouragement to others, embodying gratitude in every moment.
Above all else, Tony’s heart overflowed with love for his daughter, Toni-Ann, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride. His relationship with his wife, Andrea, whom he married on June 25, 2005, was a beautiful reflection of their shared devotion and commitment to each other and their faith. Tony was more than just a stepdad to Tyrone (TJ), Andrea’s son; he was a loving father who provided support and guidance.
A dedicated worker, Tony made a name for himself in the construction field, admired for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. He often pushed himself, working tirelessly even amidst personal health challenges, driven by his passion for precision and his desire to provide for his loved ones.
Tony’s generous spirit, deep love for those around him, and ever-present smile impacted everyone fortunate enough to know him. His passing has been met with an overwhelming outpouring of love from family, church members, and friends, a testament to the positive influence he had on so many.
Though he is no longer physically with us, Tony’s laughter, kindness, and unwavering love will remain forever etched in our hearts.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Andrea; his cherished daughter, Toni-Ann; his stepson, Tyrone (TJ); his siblings, Sydney DeRizzio (Alicia Alonso), Janice Bucknor-Cohall (Lynford Cohall), Dionne Ricketts (Glen Ricketts), Raynor (Patrick) Bucknor, Stuart Notice, Melissa Notice, Audrey Reid; along with their children. He also leaves behind his adopted sons, Daniel Smith and Kendall Andrews, and his lifelong friend, Carlton Brown, all of whom he held dear.
Tony’s legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire us as we carry his memory forward in our hearts.
