It is difficult to accept that my friend is not with us any more. You have been taken away from us too soon. I will never forget how competitive we were growing up and how much you have accomplished since then. I recently thought about calling you and then it hit me, the heaviness of my heart, memories instead of your voice, and my brain trying to make sense of it all. It hurts me that we won’t have random conversations anymore. It hurts me we won’t be able to celebrate your anniversary, birthdays, and kids graduations. It hurts….. Like the giant and stable sequoia tree, Damian stood like a stable giant for his family, his friends abd loved ones. Damian, you did great, you found joy in life and you shared it with those you loved. Dear sweet Shelly, my friend and confidante; my mom and I send love and comfort to you, your boys and extended family as you grieve the loss of your dear husband. My brother in law. My brother in love. My brother in Christ. My brother. If tears could resurrect you, you’d be here. If talk of memories with you could resurrect you, you’d be here. If the smiles evoked by looking at your photos could resurrect you, you’d be here. I will miss your texts and random phone calls just to check in on “me and the little one.” I will miss your face and presence at our family functions via Zoom. You have not missed one function since I married in to the family in 2019. And while I know To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, you will be forever missed down here and in our hearts.
